Hanging loop (Lätsch)
Bell knowledge · Parts & function
The Lätsch is the hanging loop at the top of the bell. The strap that supports the bell passes through it.
The link between bell and strap
The hanging loop’s shape and dimensions vary by bell model. The strap must therefore fit through its opening.
Which measurements matter for the strap?
Measure the internal width and height of the opening. The leather must pass through it, so also check its width and thickness at this point. A decorated strap may be wider at the top than where it attaches to the bell.
Photograph the loop from the front and side, with a ruler alongside. Simpler still, bring the bell and existing strap with you for advice.
Please do not bend open or modify the loop yourself. If there are cracks or other visible damage, have it checked by a specialist workshop, such as a smithy, before further use.
A strap that fits the attachment.
Our measuring guide shows how to check the buckle, leather length and hanging loop. It also includes a video on attaching the strap. We are happy to help with unclear measurements.
